Tricky Puzzles

The puzzles in this section are specially designed to be extra-challenging. They are not for your average Sunday afternoon puzzler! You may find that some pieces fit in more than one place, leading you down the path to frustration (and the wrong solution). The challenge for each puzzle is described beside its image.

Each puzzle is rated for difficulty on a "Tears of Frustration" scale, with a rating of three teardrops being the most difficult.

Tricky Puzzles cannot be personalized and must be cut in Knobby style unless otherwise noted.

Koi Polloi

We believe Koi Polloi to be our most difficult trick puzzle yet. The goal is simple to state - just fit all the pieces inside the brick pond edging. Accomplishing the goal may not be so simple!

The tree is set up and ready to decorate. The hard part's done - or is it? See if you can fit the ornaments on the tree. (May require some eggnog.) The tree is cut in a swirly style, just to make things a little more interesting. This puzzle can be personalized with a name on the base as shown.

Dimensions: 7 " x 5" Pieces: 50 Price:  $260

Gordian Knot

Click the picture for a larger view in a new window.

Like the Gordian Knot of legend, the challenge is to “untie” it — that is, to assemble all pieces into one rope that does not cross over itself at all. Unlike the original, slashing the knot with a sword will not be considered a correct solution. Many wrong ways to assemble (one shown here), but only one correct solution!

Dimensions: Depends on how puzzle is assembled Pieces: 40 Price: $200

Puzzling Patchwork

Click the picture for a larger view in a new window.

121 colorful patchwork pieces go together two ways to make two different quilt designs. The first solution is deceptively simple. The second will require some creative thinking (most quilting projects do!)

Dimensions: 8" x 8" Pieces: 121 Price:  $330

Cold Hands

Don't let his frosty exterior fool you. This puzzle has a heart-warming solution, and is especially suitable for sending a message of love disguised as puzzling mischief! A name can be cut into this puzzle.

Dimensions: 10 " x 7" Pieces: 110 Price:  $260
